Three new poems by Dororthy Whitely

...where do ideas come from...

When Atoms Diffuse

when atoms diffuse determinately
or not somewhere in time
a universe a galaxy all probability

when we are no more than chemistry
elemental action reaction no more distracted
by love's labor lost

when predictability and chaos pass for truth
freedom just another word for nothing
every day a prufrock dream

when circumstance is circumscribed
and heart can no more abide
a crack in the diatonic scale

then zen
pretend till love come again

Amazing Heroes

hopalong to neal
and a hi yo kemo sabe
silver stuffed somewhere

then dean queens galloping on bikes
columbine growing everywhere
bang bang boom

the joker says he's caught
batman and robin in the act
of sodom and gotham or was it gothic

all art a conspiracy
lick mine and i'll yours
how great we are

regurgitating stories reliving
memories same old same old
who said this about that

in their own minds the only sane
ones mowing grass and tending
them the crazies yeah

gardening beauty anathema to
the zanies zining along
electronic highways trying to be

dharma bums boy wonders
unsure what the word means
not being eastern enough

educated by mtv and soaps
wanna talk about her and victor
what they do their lives strangers

oh me oh my oh somewhere in ohio
on a hill in tennessee still sits that jar
old wallace insurance man talked about

somewhere  a wheelbarrow still glistens
in the rain that isn't purple
in a yard where chickens peck

somewhere over the rainbow
in kansas maybe oklahoma
someone wants to do right

somewhere sits buddha
under an apple tree
eyes averted

What Buddha Knows

ophelia to your hamlet
i sing songs of love adrift
down a stream of consciousness

or is it mary quite contrary
that i my garden weed
my soul of thistle

dreaming fairy tales
of happy every after
smelling gardenias
turning brown in heat
watching apples grow
before worms arrive

learning how to survive
what buddha knows there
silently under the apple tree
