Remember, my dearest, how we
danced our genetic mix
to a graphite waltz? Above
us that great-big reflector ball
spat cosmic light stains.
Your fingernails strained
my resolve.  I

bit your tongue. And later, oh much much
later, I found your blood had dried
to diamond.

I wanted you to put it on my finger.
I wanted you to put your finger on it.
I wanted you to.
These elemental refrains.

I took your weight
in my hand
and grappled
with how God made you.

Remember? Until dawn had us tango
filthy, filthy fullerenes.
