Sheera's Dreams

I dream of shape-shifters,
of slippy-fish that turn from gold
to a sullen gunmetal gray
but not back again.

Sometimes I am Mohammed Ali,
masturbating with rhyme,
knowing I can do better.
Still, I'm King of the World.

More often a window opens,
I see with soft, perfect eyes,
and keen a backward prayer,
to keep me safe from further harm.

Colleen Abbott   "As the youngest of six kids, I think I began writing as a way to have a voice. I'm in love with language and words, and the attempt to communicate with an imprecise though beautiful language, fascinates
me. Lately, I'm inspired by Walt Whitman,  Carl Sandburg, HD, and any
poet who manages to make the language sing. Most of my work explores
relationships, and I write way too many poems about hands. Previously
my work has been published in Poet's Canvas."   Tambor25@aol.com
