An Essay on Love
-------------------------------------------------------------by Michael Lohr  -  USA

Love is...

Love is a random act of kindness to a stranger. Love is helping humanity out when there is no disaster. Love is recycling that plastic bottle instead of just mindlessly tossing it into the trash. Love is nurturing all things that you touch.

Love is the most powerful human emotion, the most powerful but truly the most difficult to do. Love is not the most powerful force in the universe, chaos is.  Order is but a byproduct, a temporal stasis from chaos. That asteroid out there, somewhere with our name inscribed upon its ancient surface, it neither loves us nor hates us, but is a mechanism of chaos. Human emotions cannot be placed on nonhuman paradigms. All we can hope for in life is that at least a little love comes our way. The more we receive, the more blessed we are. This is the reason why it is important to love unconditionally.

Love is the loyalty of a family pet. Love is the affirmation you receive while watching your baby being born. Love is helping out in your community, both your local one and your world one. Love is when you touch another’s hand and become flush in the chemical reaction of connection. Love is saying you’re sorry and having the where-with-all to understand that doing so is not a humiliating act, but rather an act of humility.

Love is giving up that extra portion at supper so your child can have seconds. Love is sacrifice. Love is talking to your partner just to talk. And yes guys, that means we cannot have the TV on while doing so. Love is actually reading that message in a bottle…and sending a reply. Love is believing in more than just the bottom line.

Love is enjoying the sunrise, sunset, misty mountain or the sound of a rambling creek and knowing the contentment that those things bring. Love is caring for your mother and father. Love is having respect for your ancestors and respect for yourself as well as for all those around you.

Love is all the good things in life.
