Jenny Sadre-Orafai
To See Those Things
I’m
tired of her face,
her
smile like an open tent,
her
pregnant belly—
half
a parentheses
in
the sunlit room.
A
type of California tree behind her,
witness
to the spacey toothed
husband
on a
line by himself.
In
the picture, a plastic chair
next
to the prim palms placed
on
where she grows.
Dimples,
deep set and determined,
indicate
continued contentment
to
all things that float in between
elbows
and waist, teeth and lips.
