Lisa Prince
love
in the produce aisle
sometimes there are sales
in the produce department
however questionable the product
there are no coupons
in produce
lettuce crisps and wilts
on some other delivery schedule
that we are not privy
to observe:
the oranges on the top
are always better looking
than the ones on the bottom
even produce has its bitch
the fruit no one buys
the root no one understands
how to prepare
you set it neatly aside wondering
if your boyfriend will call
but really you think about celery
root ground into soup
slightly piquant
never too spicy
plants make love by third party
intercession
perhaps your mother
hoped for osmosis
