Poems Niederngasse

Aubergine

Winter chiseled its initials
on the glass, in the kitchen
a turquoise radio
played yakety yak.
He called her June,
then Barb, then Forever --
the murdered woman,
rising from her grave,
rising through the orchids,
the lilies, one aubergine petal
pouching on her bottom lip.
